See You Again | 2D Animated short

Created by Meike van Son, Luna Evergroen, Esmée Kuilman, Nina Andeweg and Elizabeth Hofmeester

A father whose only desire is to see his dead daughter one more time uses the latest technology to revive his memories. While reliving their last day together, he rediscovers a horrific fact.

During this project I was responsible for the Character Design of the daughter and worked as a Background- and Sounddesigner. Background song by artist Built by Titan.

Designing the daughter

The daughter is the main point of the story in the animation, which made her design an important aspect. We really wanted the daughter to come across as a daredevil. A tough girl who dares to explore and pushes boundaries. To add to this, she has a plaster on her knee and wears an overall in which she can easily move. In addition, her young age plays an important role in the animation. The dependence and unconditional bond with her father makes the incident at the end of the animation even more tragic. To show her age, I chose round and friendly shapes, with at the same time angular shapes in the hair to match the father's design. Big round eyes, chubby cheeks and two cute short tails. Finally, the colors within the clothing of both the father and the daughter match to show their bond.

Alien Wildlife Documentary Concept | 3D

Created by Helene Rimm, Nina Andeweg, Lyle Wilson, Timo Schoondermark, Esmée Kuilman

Wild Frontiers: Omia is an alien wildlife documentary concept for an animated 3D series. In this series booksmart Alien Wildlife Expert Dr. Thebit Moss finally goes out into wide, wide space to explore various ecosystems and their inhabitants on the exoplanet Omia.

I was part of the visual development of "Omia: Wild Frontiers" and responsible for early sounddesign and the design of protagonist Dr. Thebit Moss. In the 3D-trailer (developed by my teammates) his finale design is displayed.

As a Character designer I had the responsibility of designing our protagonist Dr. Thebit Moss. As a passionate biologist, his life has always revolved around researching his environment and exciting everyone surrounding him in the process. As a big nerd, Thebit wouldn’t we too busy with his appearance as with the expeditions he puts himself on. Resulting in a clothing style from a long time ago: the 1980’s. During his time on the planet Omia the professor has a homebase, laboratory and suit to efficiently explore this planet. As for his facial appearance, we wanted to make him look more peculiar than the average professor. Thebits hair has a strange tone of green, his complexion has bright tones of oranges and his coloured glasses have a bunch of hidden features we can only guess about... Below you will find some early sketches, style explorations, final visualisation of these locations and a few shots of Dr. Thebit Moss in action.
